Do you need a break from love?

Judith Woods, writing in The Daily Mail, asks Psychologist Roy Shuttleworth his opinions on relationship breaks.

“The ultimate goal in a relationship is complete commitment and intimacy,” says relationship therapist and clinical psychologist Roy Shuttleworth, who has a private practice in London.

“But that brings fear, because the closer you get to someone, the more hurt you might be if it all goes wrong.

Prince William, for example, has had some painful experiences, with the break-up of his parents’ marriage and the death of his mother.

That sort of trauma is going to affect his ability to commit.

When someone who has suffered a loss or bereavement starts to gets close to a partner, they can feel anxious because they’re losing control, which makes them want to pull away. I can imagine William must find it hard to commit.”
